Bucktober Scores Fifth Straight Win
Four-year-old trotter Bucktober stretched his win streak to five at The Raceway at Western Fair District with another front-end effort on Friday night (Feb. 24).
Pointed to the top from the outside post in the evening's $9,000 ninth race conditioned trot, 1-9 favourite Bucktober cleared to command for trainer/driver Tyler Borth after being parked through a :28.1 opening quarter. He proceeded to lead the reduced field of five, setting middle splits of :59.4 and 1:30.1, while keeping first-over challenger Shouldaknownbetter (Anthony Hamlin) at bay for the half-length victory in 2:00. Global News (Garrett Rooney) rounded out the top three finishers.
Bucktober paid $2.20 to win. Through seven starts this year, he has added $25,470 to his career bankroll, which now totals $62,658. The four-year-old Flanagan Memory-Armbro Equinox gelding, who has a dozen wins to his credit lifetime, is owned by Tyler Borth, along with William Borth of Ingersoll, Ont., and the Estate of Martin Hossack of Thamesford, Ont.
A longtime Standardbred owner and breeder, Martin Hossack passed away on Sunday, Feb. 19.
