Striking Count Tops Blooded Horse Winter Sale

Striking Count winning at Scioto Downs

The 60th annual Blooded Horse Winter Sale, featuring sale topper Striking Count, was held on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the Champions Center in Springfield, Ohio.

Four-year-old trotting gelding Striking Count, Hip 99, sold for $36,000. The son of Full Count out of the Chip Chip Hooray mare Hooray Katie was purchased from the Burke Racing Stable consignment by Cory Stratton of Middleton, New York. A four-time winner with a mark of 1:55.2 taken last year at Scioto Downs, Striking Count has hit the board a total of 15 times in 34 career starts while earning more than $50,000. Acquired by the Burke stable in mid-January, he has been racing at The Meadows, where he finished second in a conditioned trot last time out on Feb. 9.

Among the top priced horses was five-year-old pacer Bet On Blake, Hip 95, purchased for $25,000 by John Wagner of Fairfax, Virginia. Also from the Burke consignment, the Betterthancheddar-LadyLynnly gelding is an eight-time winner with a mark of 1:51.2 taken over Pocono Downs last year and has banked more than $150,000 from 61 career starts.

Consigned by agent Spring Haven Farm, the broodmare Pine Creek, Hip 86, also sold for $25,000 and the winning bidder was Mahlon A Miller of Sugarcreek, Ohio. An unraced six-year-old trotting mare, she is a half-sister to Grand Circuit stakes-winning filly Flawless Country ($567,819 - 1:53).  Pine Creek is sired by Uncle Peter out of Aleah Hanover, a half-sister to international stakes-winning stallion Cruzado Dela Noche ($1,383,640 - 1:53.3). Bred to Indiana sire Dover Dan, Pine Creek is carrying her second foal.
