Camara Moment Completes Series Sweep For Moreau
Camara Moment completed a sweep of the Snowshoe Pacing Series with a dominant 1:54.3 score in the $38,600 final as part of a four-win night at Woodbine Mohawk Park for 10-time O'Brien Award-winning trainer Richard Moreau on Friday, Feb. 10.
Driven by Doug McNair, Camara Moment sat on the outside around the first turn while pushing towards the lead. The 2-5 favourite touched down on top racing to the half, leading by the middle station in :57 and three-quarters in 1:26.3. Camara Moment then scooted home in :28 to win by 2-1/4 lengths over Emmetts Buddy (Louis-Philippe Roy), with early leader Last Beach (Paul MacDonell) settling for third.
Camara Moment is now four-for-five to start his four-year-old season for owners Mickey Sudar of Hagersville, Ont., Brenton Harris of Newcastle, Ont., and James Borke of Old Bridge, New Jersey. The Snowshoe sweep pushed his seasonal earnings to $53,050 and his lifetime bankroll to more than $119,000.
Camara Moment paid $2.80 to win.
Moreau also sent out winners Style For A Mile ($4.50) and Littlebearcat ($4.60), both driven by McNair, and Stews Watching ($7.10), driven by Sylvain Filion.
Shesasharpshooter was poised for a series sweep of her own in the $35,000 Blizzard Pacing Series final for fillies and mares, but Chedda Chedda pulled off a 9-1 upset. After top-three finishes in the preliminary legs, Chedda Chedda shot up the inside to win the final in a career-best 1:55.1. Louis-Philippe Roy guided the Chantal Mitchell-trained three-year-old filly to victory.
Chedda Chedda made the front just after an opening quarter of :27.2 before 2-5 favourite Shesasharpshooter (Steven Hudon) circled back around to command. The heavy favourite led by the middle poles in :56.2 and 1:25.1. In the stretch, Shesasharpshooter put away first-up challenger Music Box Noise (James MacDonald), but couldn’t fight off Chedda Chedda, who prevailed by a neck along the pylons. Music Box Noise settled for third.
Chedda Chedda is now two-for-five this season after winning one of eight as a rookie. The Betterthancheddar-Oath filly increased her seasonal earnings to $33,332 and career bankroll to $48,762 for owner Decision Theory Inc., of Richmond Hill, Ont.
Chedda Chedda returned $20 for the upset win.
The Snowshoe and Blizzard (fillies and mares) were open to non-winners of two races or $30,000 lifetime as of Oct. 31, 2022.
