Points North Upsets Mohawk Feature
Carmen Auciello trainee Points North sat steady before striking in the lane to land an 11-1 blow on his rivals in the $28,000 featured pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday night (Feb. 4).
American History jetted for the lead on his usual speed mission, though this time carving wicked fractions of :26.1, :53.4 and 1:21.1. Despite the torrid pace, American History remained resolute on the lead coming for home with few mounting a serious threat. Though Points North, off the covered trip, uncorked a furious rally after the pacesetter late and slid to a half-length victory in 1:50.2 while Dontpokethedragon stormed from last to take third and Highlandbeachlover settled for fourth.
Points North, an eight-year-old gelding by Somebeachsomewhere, competes for owners Jim and David Winske. He won his 38th race from 158 starts, has now earned $768,944 and paid $24.90 to win.
