Shesasharpshooter Obliges In Blizzard Opener
Odds-on choice Shesasharpshooter asserted her place on the lead and fought for it to the finish to win the second of two $18,000 Blizzard Pacing Series opening preliminary divisions on Thursday night (Jan. 26) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Shesasharpshooter fired for the front but yielded command past a :28.2 first quarter to Nootka. After a :57.2 half, Nootka failed to endure the pocket pop of Shesasharpshooter as she reclaimed the lead at headstretch and fended off the bid of Chedda Chedda to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:55. Musci Box Noise rallied from last for third and Kinda Like Royalty finished fourth.
Laura Toscani trains Shesasharpshooter, a four-year-old Huntsville mare, for owner Gino Toscani. Steven Hudon drove the winner of three races from 22 starts and $41,151 in earnings. She paid $2.90 to win.
The three-year-old All Bets Off filly Getting Euchred blew away her rivals in the other Blizzard Pacing Series division, winning in 1:57.1.
Unique Era rolled to the lead from the outermost post in the sextet while driver Doug McNair floated Getting Euchred into fourth. Past a :28 first quarter, Unique Era yielded command to Queen Of Soul but then pulled back outside to press into a :58.1 half and three-quarters in 1:27.4. Unique Era dropped anchor into the stretch while Getting Euchred sprung into action and collared Queen Of Soul before plowing clear to a 4-1/4-length win. Queen Of Soul held second from Windsun Mojito in third and Dali Dalite finished another four lengths behind in fourth.
Brent Belore trains Getting Euchred for owner Ronald Thomson. She won her sixth race from nine starts and has now earned $27,662. She paid $17.40 to win.
