Longtime harness racing industry participant H. Bruce Kennedy of Ottawa, Ont. passed away peacefully on Jan. 19, 2023 after a short courageous battle with cancer at age of 81.

Bruce was an accomplished and well-known horseman in both Canada and the U.S. His long successful racing career was driven by his hard work, expertise and dedication to detail. A humble and proud competitor, his knowledge and professionalism was highly respected amongst his peers. 

Bruce is survived by his only child, devoted son Murray, grandchildren Bailey and Huey Kennedy of Ottawa, brother William (Carolyn) Kennedy of Ottawa, sister Carol (Peter) Zadarozny of Pembroke, Ont., Liette (Bourgeois) of Embrun, Ont. and numerous extended family and friends. Predeceased by parents Howard and Hilda (MacLeod), twin sisters Joyce and Joan Kennedy of Maxville, Ont. 

As per Bruce's wishes, there is no visitation or funeral but a private springtime family gathering will follow in Maxville. The family extends its gratitude to all the staff at the General Campus and Elizabeth Bryure Hospital for their excellent compassionate care. Donations may be forwarded to the Elizabeth Bryure Palliative Care Unit in Ottawa.
