New Vocations Honours Brower With Special Memorial
New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program will plant a tree and install a plaque in memory of Dave Brower, beloved member of the harness racing industry who passed away unexpectedly in Lexington, Kentucky last October.
Brower was the longtime lead TV host, morning-line oddsmaker and harness racing program analyst at The Meadowlands. His passing at age 53 was a huge shock to the racing industry. Jessica Otten, Marketing Coordinator and on-air talent for The Meadowlands, was asked to sit in for Brower at The Red Mile immediately after his passing. Otten generously donated her compensation from that weekend to New Vocations in honour of Brower. That donation along with others made in his memory will be used towards the special memorial.
In addition to his on-air commentary, Brower was a published author, writing "Harnessing Winners" in 2009. He hosted many national TV broadcasts, including last year’s Hambletonian, seen on the CBS Sports Network. A fan of harness racing since childhood, Brower had a deep knowledge of and love for the sport.
“By planting a tree in Dave Brower’s memory, we are ensuring that his legacy continues and his impact on the harness racing community will not be forgotten,” said Dot Morgan, Executive Director of New Vocations. “This special memorial will ensure that his contributions to the sport will live on for generations here at New Vocations.”
