Seven Straight For Shark Week
Some time away from the job did no harm to Shark Week as he returned to the track off four-week’s rest to take the $13,500 Preferred Handicap Pace on Saturday night (Jan. 7) at Century Mile.
Driven by Mike Hennessy, the five-year-old Vertical Horizon stallion cleared command to a :27.1 first quarter with Samba Beat settling into the pocket. Shark Week then kept his competition chasing through a :57 half and 1:26.1 three-quarters and spun for home with just Samba Beat challenging. Samba Beat popped pocket and dug into Shark Week through the stretch, but Shark Week kept control for a neck victory in 1:53.3 with Outlaw Gunsablazin taking third and Whiplash Smile finishing fourth.
Rod Hennessy trains and co-owns Shark Week with Lorne Duffield. He won his 21st race from 51 starts and has now earned $206,235. In his last 14 starts, he has finished first or second and he hasn't missed the top three since a fifth-place finish on July 2, 2022 at Century Downs. He paid $3.40 to win.
