Harris Collects Win No. 2,000
J Harris had four drives coming into the Wednesday night (Dec. 28) card at Flamboro Downs and sat four wins away from the 2,000-win milestone. Scoring a grand slam with his lone assignments, J Harris entered the 2,000-win club.
Harris opened the evening swiftly with a 1:59 win by Senior Advisor. Later, he steered odds-on favourite Rock N Row to a coast-to-coast victory in 1:56.1 and followed with a 1:55.2 post-to-pillar win by favoured Ponderance. In the last race on the card, Harris slid off a pocket trip with Ship Disturber to his 2,000th victory to wrap the night batting a thousand.
This season is Harris's first year with over 100 wins and a $1 million in purses since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. Harris, having driven since 2005, has earned $12 million in purses and sits tied for seventh on the Flamboro Downs driving leaderboard.
Sent off as the odds-on choice, Respect Our Flag rolled to the lead and strolled around Flamboro Downs to nab a 1:54 victory in the $10,000 featured pace on Wednesday night.
Driver Travis Cullen claimed command with the Jodie Cullen trainee from post four and faced little challenge in winning. He set an uncontested clip of :28.3, :57.3 and 1:26 with the only challenger along the rim, Rotten Ronnie, floundering five lengths off the pacesetter to the final turn. Respect Our Flag then kicked for home to win by two lengths over pocket-sitter Uncontrollable with J J Powerball riding the pylons for third and Somewherentuscany taking fourth.
Co-owned by Travis Cullen with Ronald Cullen and Paul Sanders, Respect Our Flag won his 29th race from 136 starts and has now earned $362,010. The six-year-old Roll With Joe gelding paid $2.20 to win.
