Ideal Perception Pops In Preferred Repeat

Winter racing at Flamboro Downs

Austin Sorrie sent the five-year-old American Ideal stallion Ideal Perception to the point and uncorked a furious mile to repeat in the $13,000 Preferred Handicap Pace as the 1-2 favourite on Wednesday night (Dec. 21) at Flamboro Downs.

Leaving from post six, Ideal Perception landed on the helm before a :27 first quarter and led uncontested while still rolling to a :55.3 half. Lovemyrockinbird mounted a shot at the pacesetter from third up the backside but gave futile chase past three-quarters in 1:23.3. Ideal Perception spun off the bottom turn and held his ground in the lane to keep pocket-sitter P L Oliver at bay by three-quarters of a length in 1:52.2 with Clever Character closing for third and Lovemyrockinbird settling for fourth.

Owned by S S G Stables, Ideal Perception won his 15th race from 88 starts and has now earned $275,282. Anthony Beaton trains the stallion, who paid $3.10 to win.
