Lucky Seven For Pierce
Anders Bluestone splashed through a wintry mix to win the $23,000 Open Handicap Trot on a rainy Wednesday, February 8 over a ‘sloppy’ track at Dover Downs
. Ron Pierce had a banner night driving seven winners.
Following a short hiatus, Anders Bluestone returned to the track and showed no ill effects as Ross Wolfenden drove the Yankee Glide-Annette Hanover six-year-old to a 1:55 victory in the week’s feature trot. After moving out of fourth in front of the grandstand, Anders Bluestone easily took the lead a few steps past the half mile pole. George Dennis sent Lets Get Serious N after the leader on the backstretch, but could only unsuccessfully test the trot-setter the rest of the way. He still managed to finish second. Dont Know Chip closed well, in his first local start for Vince Copeland, to finish third.
In the race before, Baron Racing and trainer Josh Green’s Hezahumer started in the second tier, but had more than enough to best eight rivals in 1:56.4 in a $16,500 Winners Over Trot with Wolfenden driving. An altered son of Master Lavec-First Breath, the five-year-old won for the fourth time this meet. Idol Kemp (George Dennis), who only last week was involved in a world-record five-eighths-mile dead-heat for win, came on sharply to finish second. Photo Maxx (Jon Roberts) was the show horse.
Ron Pierce led all drivers with seven wins on the card. The track record is nine set by Tim Tetrick last meet on February 27, 2011.
