L A Woman Takes New Mark Defeating Century Distaffers
L A Woman turned in a career-best performance as she wired her competition in the featured $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Pace at Century Mile on a sub-zero Friday evening in Edmonton, Alta.
Taking on the top local distaffers from post two, L A Woman made front heading into the first turn and led the way through fractions of :29, :56.4 and 1:25.2 en route to the 1-1/4-length victory in a new mark of 1:54.4 for trainer/driver Nathan Sobey. With the pocket-pulling Outlaw Allie Oops (Mike Hennessy) unable to gain ground through the stretch, Mrs Suhwiggins (Dave Kelly) rallied off her back to finish second while Shoot The Whiskey (Jamie Gray) sprinted home for third prize.
Sent postward at odds of 6-1, L A Woman paid $14.70 to win.
The Trust The Artist-Cloud Nine mare, who picked up the second win of her five-year-old season to go along with 10 other top three finishes from 29 starts, currently races for local owners Rob Ostashek Holdings Ltd. and Terry Ostashek. She's earned $28,890 this year and is approaching the $100,000 mark lifetime.
