Logans Hero A London Hero
The betting public at The Raceway at the Western Fair District sent off Logans Hero as the 3-2 favourite in Tuesday’s $15,000 Preferred Trot, and the Richard Moreau trainee didn’t disappoint
.
The seven-year-old son of Angus Hall-Balanced Action got away third and watched Chinnys Wings march to the top. He threw down an opening quarter in :28.4 before being prompted by the parked out Euro Classic to the mid-way point in :58.3. Chinnys Wings was still in command of the tempo going into the backstretch, but driver Jason Brewer vaulted off second-over cover with Logans Hero and called on his ticket to victory lane to go into attack mode.
Little separated Chinnys Wings and Logans Hero at the three-quarter pole in 1:29.1, and things stayed that way all the way down the lane. Logans Hero’s final frame of :30.3 over a track listed as “good” with a one-second allowance was just enough to earn him the neck decision over Chinnys Wings in a time of 2:00. Dashing Earl came on late to finish third.
The victory was the first of the season in five tries for Logans Hero, who races for Keith Cassell of Smiths Falls, ON. The 24-time winner, who went 6-for-30 last year, now boasts a career bankroll of $317,381.
