Century Heineken Upsets; Moreau Scores Hat Trick
Off at 14-1, Century Heineken parlayed a pocket trip into a victory in the $34,000 Preferred Pace on Saturday night (Nov. 12) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Century Heineken cleared control to a :27.2 first quarter but soon settled for the pocket when Carbine swept to the front out of third. Carbine led to a :55.1 half, where Wheels On Fire dropped out of the race from broken equipment. Codename Cigar Box soon launched a first-over bid and applied minor pressure to Carbine to three-quarters in 1:23.2 and matched strides with the pacesetter in the lane. But Carbine began to tire and drifted, which opened a seam for Century Heineken to dash through and claim a neck victory in a 1:51.3 mile. Warrawee Vital launched from second over but settled for second with Codename Cigar Box finishing third.
Gregg McNair trains and co-owns Century Heineken with Brad Grant and Ross Family Farms Ltd. The four-year-old Bettors Delight gelding collected his 11th victory from 41 tries and added to a bankroll now worth $236,066. Bob McClure drove the $30.80 winner.
Following the feature, trainer Richard Moreau nabbed the third of his three wins on the Saturday card with an off-the-pace score by Real Willey ($10.80 to win). His other two wins came earlier on the card with a drop-and-pop victory by American History ($5.40) and a gutsy win by Cadillac Bayama ($4.50).
