Duo Deliver Six-Figure Sums On Harrisburg Day Three
A pacing colt and a pacing filly topped the ranks of the 398 yearlings sold during the third session of the Standardbred Horse Sale in Harrisburg, Pa. on Wednesday (Nov. 9).
First came Vignette Blue Chip, selling as Hip 769 and consigned by Blue Chip Farms. The Bettors Wish filly, who sold for $100,000 to William Donovan of Delray Beach, Fla., is a half sister to $100,000-plus earner Rys Red Rocket and is from a great granddam who is a half-sister to the dam of near-millionaire JK Will Power.
Later, Linda Toscano of Freehold, N.J. acquired Tenacious Hanover, a Hanover Shoe Farms-consigned Stay Hungry colt selling as Hip 893, for $100,000. The colt is the fifth foal from a Well Said mare, whos granddam is a half sister to millionaire and former Toscano trainee Kenneth J as well as an O'Brien Award winner in Percy Bluechip.
William Donovan also struck the winning bid on the third-highest sale of the session in Artonic Hanover, who sold as Hip 534 and was consigned by Hanover Shoe Farms. The Betting Line filly is the ninth foal from the Real Desire mare Allamerican Cognac and is a half-sister to $500,000-plus earners JJ Flynn and Air Force Hanover. The yearling's granddam is also a half-sister to O'Brien Award winner and double millionaire Caviart Ally. Donovan purchased her for $95,000.
Elche Hanover, consigned by Hanover Shoe Farms and going as Hip 654, brought the fourth-highest price of the session with a winning $82,000 bid by Glengate Farms of Erin, Ont. The filly is the sixth foal from the Dream Vacation mare Exotic Destination and is a three-quarter sister to $500,000-plus earner Hillexotic.
For just a few dollars less, Long Run Hanover — consigned by Hanover Shoe Farms and selling as Hip 725 — went for $80,000 to Nicholas Malcolm of Milton, Ont. The Andover Hall filly is the sixth foal from the Donerail mare Lady Luck Hanover who foaled stakes-placed Luckycharm Hanover and Lilu Hanover. Lady Luck Hanover is also from the world champion mare Beat The Wheel and is a half-sister to millionaire Beatgoeson Hanover.
Wednesday's session grossed $8,626,000 for an average sale of $21,673. Cumulatively, the Harrisburg yearling sale grossed $44,356,000 over the three days to break its all-time sales record of $42,784,000 set in 2007.
