Wild Finish In Fraser Feature
It was a spine-tingling finish in the Monday evening feature at Fraser Downs as Century Mach and Moosette battled all the way down the lane before sharing the victory in what was a terrific, dead-heat performance in the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace.
Century Mach had race favourite Miss Itunes parked out and pressing on as they reached the quarter pole in an incredible :25.3, but Miss Itunes marched on and eventually worked her way to the top. She then laid down dazzling, middle panels of :55.1 and 1:23.3 before weakening.
Century Mach angled out of the pocket for trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt and longshot Moosette was staging a huge rally from the backfield as the group headed into the final quarter of the contest. As the finished line arrived there was no separating the two in 1:53. In High Cotton also came on strong to nab the show dough in the seven-horse affair.
Hoerdt’s Century Mach, who went one-for-15 last season, has now assembled a record of 18-7-2 from 34 trips postward this year. The 19-time winner has racked up more than $95,000 in earnings in 2022 and over $104,000 to date.
Moosette, who was 8-1 for the duo of driver Brandon Campbell and trainer Jim Marino, now boasts a 9-10-2 record from 25 trips to the track this year. The 21-time winner has banked over $155,000 to date for owner/breeder Shale Stables of Merritt, B.C.
