Wheels On Fire Revs To Victory
As the year winds down, Wheels On Fire winds up. The perennial Preferred competitor at Woodbine Mohawk Park collected another win at the $34,000 top class with a stalking performance to clench the cash in 1:49.1 on Saturday night (Nov. 5).
Carbine cleared command to a :27.1 first quarter with odds-on favourite Warrawee Vital to his outside, but made sure to keep him outside as the pair battled to a :54.4 and three-quarters in 1:21.2. Warrawee Vital came for home one paced while Carbine clung to the lead with several leaping into action. Driver Doug McNair came motoring out of the pocket through a late seam and split horses to surge to a nose victory over Carbine with Codename Cigar Box settling for third and Sintra rallying for fourth.
Wheels On Fire, a seven-year-old gelding by Somebeachsomewhere, bagged his 43rd win from 128 starts and added to a bankroll now worth $941,338. Richard Moreau trains the gelding, who paid $18.50 to win, for Brad Grant.
Gias Surreal led every step in the $32,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace to post a mile in 1:51.1. Driver Bob McClure launched the six-year-old So Surreal mare for the lead from post nine and took over to a :27.3 first quarter. Shes Got It All mounted a challenge but landed in second while Gias Surreal strolled to the half in :56. Taking the field by three-quarters in 1:24.1, Gias Surreal spun for home and built enough cushion to withstand the late charge of Delitfulcatherin N by three-quarter lengths with Dabarndawgswatchin third and Voelz Delight fourth.
Don Lindsey trains Gias Surreal for owners James Graham, Edward Peron and Lee Winters. She won her 31st race from 106 starts and has now earned $836,941. She paid $4.90 to win.
