Another Pop-Up Series Begins At Mohawk
Three-year-old pacing colt Better Sunset opened a new Pop-Up Series on Friday night (Nov. 4) at Woodbine Mohawk Park with a maiden-breaking 1:52.4 score in rein to Bob McClure.
Better Sunset (pictured above) rallied from off the pace to defeat the duelling leaders, Bettor Than Pride and favourite Done Poke The Bear, in the fastest of two $15,000 divisions. The Bettors Delight colt prevailed by half a length in his sixth career start, returning $7.90 to win as the 3-1 second choice. Murray Brethour trains the homebred for George Hunt, Greg Hunt and Kelli Ann Hunt.
Trained and driven by Beau Brown, freshman gelding Thersomthinggoinon pulled off a 26-1 upset in the second division, leading early and retaking the top spot in the stretch for the 1:54.2 victory by 1-1/4 lengths over three-year-olds Serious Mojo and La Playa Deo. The son of Artspeak returned $55 at the betting windows, winning for the first time in 11 starts for owners Jennifer Brown, Hunter Holton and Charles Symes. Heavy favourite Saulsbrook Ian broke stride at the start.
The series is for pacers four-year-olds and younger that are non-winners of one race or $5,000 lifetime, with a minimum of five starts lifetime.
