Day 'Sizzlen' In Western Fair Feature
Sizzlen Hot Herbie was guided to victory in the $10,000 feature race on the Tuesday evening (Nov. 1) card at The Raceway at the Western Fair District by trainer and driver Natasha Day.
Wrap And A Hooey (Garrett Rooney) fired off of the car from the center of the track with Spun From Magic (Colin Kelly) and Sizzlen Hot Herbie not far behind. The field organized into single file in that order with favoured Goaltender (Samuel Fillion) settling in fourth. Wrap And A Hooey controlled the first quarter in :28.3 before feeling pressure from behind with Goaltender moving up on the outside. Through the :59.4 half and 1:28.3 three-quarters, the two met wheel-to-wheel to battle for the front. Spun From Magic moved to the outside before making a break, giving clearance to Day and Sizzlen Hot Herbie to climb up the inside. As Goaltender went off stride, Day made her move with Sizzlen Hot Herbie to the outside of Wrap And A Hooey in the final turn. In the stretch, Sizzlen Hot Herbie passed Wrap And A Hooey to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:59. Wrap And A Hooey finished second and Jayport Hi Class (Greg Dustin) grabbed third.
Sizzlen Hot Herbie collected his 24th lifetime win, moving his season record to 4-4-3 in 18 starts and lifetime earnings to $212,430. Also owned by Day, the eight-year-old gelding is by Here Comes Herbie.
Sizzlen Hot Herbie paid $16.90 to win, the third highest payout on the card after a $51 win by Playfull Elegance (Tyler Borth) in the fifth race and a hefty $74.10 win by Mikron (Scott Coulter) in the eighth race. Total handle for the Tuesday evening card calculated as $550,332.
