Jimmy Freight Recovering From Injury
Absent from the harness racing Free-For-All ranks over the past couple of months, millionaire pacing stallion Jimmy Freight is recovering from injury.
Jimmy Freight, who last raced in the Canadian Pacing Derby on Sept. 3 finishing fourth to Bulldog Hanover, has been away from the track recovering from a fracture, according to co-owner Adriano Sorella.
"The short [of] it is, during the Canadian Pacing Derby he didn't seem right," said Sorella in a social media post on Monday evening. "Shortly after that, we discovered what we thought was a [pus] pocket, was actually a small fracture."
Sorella explained that Jimmy Freight has since had reparative surgery and is on the mend with a return to racing expected in his future.
"Dr. Patty Hogan placed two screws into the area about four weeks ago, and gave him an excellent racing prognosis with six to eight weeks of healing time," continued Sorella, who shares ownership of the multiple stakes winner with his partners in the Jimmy Freight Stable and Let It Ride Stables. "My wish is to see him back on track. He's one tough animal, that's for sure."
The seven-year-old son of Sportswriter-Allamerican Summer returned to racing late last year after standing stud and won a dozen of his 21 starts in 2022, including a 1:50.2 track record performance in the Camluck Classic at The Raceway at Western Fair District and a 1:48 career-best victory in the Mohawk Gold Cup Invitational at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The 2018 O'Brien Award winner boasts a career summary reading 33-15-12 from 75 starts with more than $1.8 million purse earnings.
