Hennessy Wins Half The Card At Century Downs
Driver Mike Hennessy swept half of Friday's races at Century Downs, including four straight to open the 10-race card.
Hennessy set the tone for the Friday card winning the $8,600 opener with the four-year-old Betterthancheddar mare Cheese Whiz ($7.40) for his father's stable. The Rod Hennessy trainee (pictured above) prevailed off a perfect pocket trip in 1:56.1 by 1-1/2 lengths over Tami Blue and L A Woman.
The win was the first of four in a row for the 39-year-old reinman, who followed with victories aboard Naked Burner ($10.60) for trainer Marissa Kleinsasser, Katie Lou ($6) from the Harold Haining stable and the maiden-breaking sophomore gelding Hard Ticket ($5.50) for trainer/owner Samuel Johnson.
A Bettor Moment later capped off a five-win Friday for Hennessy as the Robert Sabourin trainee took the eighth race.
Hennessy increased his 2022 win count to 67 at Century Downs and currently sits just one victory off the top three on the local leaderboard. He has 88 victories overall this year and was the winner of the Western Regional Driving Championship to earn a spot in next month's National Driving Championship at Century Mile.
