Jacked Sweeps Autumn Series
Bob McIntosh trainee Jacked won every prelim and delivered the knockout blow in the $23,000 final of the Autumn Series Colt Trot at Flamboro Downs on Sunday night (Oct. 23).
Driver Brett MacDonald floated away fourth with Jacked to a :28.4 first quarter set by Impressive Dude. He then circled the three-year-old Muscle Mass gelding to race third to a :59.2 half before moving to grab the lead into the backside, where Impressive Dude lost stride. Jacked was left with a 4-1/2-length lead to three-quarters in 1:28.2 which he maintained through the stretch to stop the clock in 1:59.2. C S Goldpolicy, the longest shot on the board at 96-1, finished second with Commemorative taking third off the pocket trip.
Jacked competes for owner-breeders Robert McIntosh Stables Inc., C S X Stables and Dave Boyle. He won his fourth race from 10 starts, has now earned $29,260 and paid $2.70 to win.
MacDonald also delivered with the favourite in the $26,200 Autumn Series Filly Pace with Keepingasecret in 1:57.
Chedda Chedda charged to the lead to a :28.3 first quarter before facing a first-over push from On The Agenda through a :59 half and 1:28.1 three-quarters. MacDonald poised Keepingasecret second over and launched three wide to the final turn to seize the lead in the stretch and hold firm to the finish to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Chedda Chedda. On The Agenda finished third and Red Sky Tonight took fourth.
Lyle MacArthur conditions Keepingasecret, a three-year-old filly by Control The Moment, for owners Linda Wellwood and Tammy Aspden. She won her second race from 10 starts, has now earned $23,590 and paid $5.40 to win.
In the co-featured $13,000 Preferred Trot, Arrakis drafted to a narrow 1:56.4 victory. The 10-year-old Federal Flex gelding stalked tempo-setter Esquire through a clip of :28.4, :58.3 and 1:27.2 before launching through the open stretch for the lead late. Arrakis grabbed the front late to cross the beam a neck better than Esquire with Lucas NL taking third. Francis Guillemette owns and trains the 37-time winner from 244 starts. He has now earned $525,170 and paid $6.40 to win.
