Hes Sporty, Murrays Watching With Autumn Series Wins
The second leg of the Autumn Series for Ontario sired two- and three-year-old colts and geldings was contested on Tuesday night (Oct. 18) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
In the first showing, Hes Sporty achieved his second win in the series for trainer Jim Flynn. Favoured Inked In Pink (Scott Wray) controlled the timer through splits of :28.4, :59.4, and 1:29 until the head of the stretch. Following a steady pocket trip, driver Colin Kelly used the final turn into the stretch to pop off the rail to challenge Inked In Pink. Once the field hit the straightaway, Hes Sporty and Colin Kelly kept on going past Inked In Pink to win in 1:59.3. Matteo (Tyler Borth) made his way through to claim second and Inked In Pink finished third.
Jim and Doreen Flynn bred and co-own the Sportswriter gelding, who earned his third win in five starts this season and now has money earnings totalling $15,375.
In his first Autumn Series appearance, Murrays Watching (Travis Cullen) was the first out of the gate and to the front through a :29.3 first quarter until the 1:00.1 half when favoured Dows Up (Dan Clements) gave challenge on the outside. The pair separated themselves from the remainder of the field by four lengths to the 1:28.2 third quarter pole. Murrays Watching fended Dows Up off and broke away to win by a head in 1:59.4. A judgment of interference in the stretch lead to second-place finisher Dows Up to be placed third and third-place finisher Mason Street (Austin Sorrie) to move up to second.
Murrays Watching is a two-year-old colt trained by Rob Fellows for M&s Racing Stable Inc and N Yolanda Fellows of Rockwood, Ont. The Hes Watching colt now has two wins and $17,684 earned.
