On July 1, 2017, many Canadians will be celebrating the country's 150th birthday. How many people know that the date will also mark the 250th anniversary of Canadian horse racing?

In his latest edition of "The View", Trot Magazine's award-winning editor Darryl Kaplan recalls the origin of racing in Canada. Taking place on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City on July 1, 1767, the event was for a purse of $40 and won by a mare named Modesty.
