Charmbo Prince Gate-To-Wire Win In Feature At Western Fair
Charmbo Prince went gate-to-wire to win the $13,000 Preferred Trot at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Monday evening (Oct. 17).
The five-year-old gelding went to the gate as bettors' choice with Tyler Borth at the controls. Wrap And A Hooey (Nicholas Steward) powered out of the gate against seven other horses, claiming real estate at the front on the rail before anyone else. Charmbo Prince kept moving on the outside, finally finding place on the rail ahead of Wrap And A Hooey after a :28.3 opening panel. Borth and Charmbo Prince surged forward through panels of 1:00 and 1:29 to a four-length victory in 1:58.2. Jayport Hi Class (Greg Dustin) finished second and Arcanum (Scott Coulter) completed the ticket.
Trainer John Rier bred and co-owns the Royalty For Life-Hetties Charm gelding with Randy Rier. Charmbo Prince collected his fifth win on the season and 15th lifetime with $159,314 earned in 65 starts.
Racing continues at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday, Oct. 18, with a post time of 5:50 p.m.
