Acefortyfour Dome Wins Atlantic Aged Mares Pacing Series Final
Acefortyfour Dome, under the command of Jason Hughes, captured the Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Final presented by Standardbred Canada in a dazzling 1:54.2 Monday (Oct. 17) at Red Shores Summerside.
The five-year-old daughter of Up The Credit, shown here winning at Charlottetown earlier this year, tracked pacesetter Dreamfair Zenfire (Marc Campbell) through splits of :27, :56 and 1:24.3 before taking over the leader in deep stretch for her eighth victory of the season. Dreamfair Zenfire held on for second while Ubettimagoodone (Dale Spence) was third. Acefortyfour Dome paid $13.50 to win while the 5-1-2 triactor returned $68.
Hughes trains the mare for owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. Acefortyfour Dome moved her record to 22-11-14 in 77 lifetime starts with $152,911 in career earnings.
In other action, Screen Test (Corey MacPherson) won the co-feature 11th race for owners Kickin Horse Stable and William Andrew. Ron Gass trains the pacer, who notched his 36th lifetime score. The time of the mile was 1:55.4. His Boy Elroy (Jason Hughes) was second while Boys Turn (David Dowling) finished third.
Drivers Ken Murphy and David Dowling went into the program tied with 38 victories on the season. Dowling edged ahead scoring with Ultimate Long Shot in the third race for trainer Earl Watts. That driver-trainer combination clicked again in race four with Cantstopthelovin to give Dowling the lead with 40 wins on the campaign with two cards remaining while Watts continues to lead all trainers at Summerside with 18 top place finishes.
David Dowling, Marc Campbell and Dale Spence recorded driving doubles on the program.
