Tattoo Artist Clings To Victory
Ever since escaping Bulldog Hanover in the Canadian Pacing Derby, Tattoo Artist has continued to roll at Woodbine Mohawk Park and notched his third straight victory in the $65,000 Open Handicap Pace on Saturday night (Oct. 15).
Driver James MacDonald motored the five-year-old Hes Watching stallion to the top from post 10 and clicked a :26.2 first quarter with Warrawee Vital at his neck to the outside. Tattoo Artist eventually yielded control to Warrawee Vital, who then cut a :54.1 half and three-quarters in 1:21.1 before spinning for home on fumes. Tattoo Artist vacated pocket in the stretch and spurted by Warrawee Vital to open a wide cushion into the eighth pole. Codename Cigar Box burst through the pack with late pace to challenge Tattoo Artist in the final strides but just missed by a nose at the end of a 1:49.1 mile. Carbine closed for third and Mappos Lion lunged from near last for fourth.
Dr. Ian Moore trains Tattoo Artist for owners Let It Ride Stables Inc., Frank Cannon and Diamond Creek Racing. He won his 30th race from 68 starts, has now earned $1,889,764 and paid $2.90 to win.
The Open Pace transpired on the undercard of the 2022 Ontario Sires Stakes Super Finals. Watch the COSA TV coverage of the Super Finals below, or click here for the recaps.
