Dellas Playboy Wows Them At Northside
Dellas Playboy went the mile of his life on Saturday (Oct. 15) at Northside Downs with an undetered first-over effort to capture the 2022 $3,500 Celtic Financial Pacing Series Final.
Sent off as the 9/2 third choice, Dellas Playboy and driver Ardon Mofford sat in fourth in the early stages while 2/5 favourite Senior K (Richie Baryluk) had the field in his hands through a :30 opener and moderate 1:01 half.
Mofford came to call from fourth with Dellas Playboy as the field approached the half, and the duo kept consistent pressure on the pacesetter through a 1:31 third panel. Neither pacer was giving way around the far turn, but Dellas Playboy came to play and opened up on his rival in deep stretch to hit the wire a half-length the best. Senior K was next best with Elm Grove Ocean (John Willy Beaton) completing the triactor.
The mile was timed in 2:00.1, a career best for four-year-old Dellas Playboy (Ameripan Gigolo - Pantagram) bred, owned and trained by George Della Valle of Sydney, N.S. The win was the pacer's fourth of the year and eighth lifetime, with the winner's share of the purse boosting his earnings to $7,682. He paid $11.30 to win.
The 2022 Celtic Financial Series was contested for non-winners of $2,500 in 2022 as of September 30, 2022, with a minimum 10 starts.
Dontblvmejustwatch (Randy Getto) repeated his success from Monday in the $1,700 Winners Over Pace, winning in wire-to-wire fashion by a neck over a determined Gentry Seelster (Larry Snow) in 1:58.3. Revenant (Ardon Mofford) was a locked-in-the-box third.
Sent off as the 4/5 favourite, Dontblvmejustwatch (Hes Watching - Hudson Gal) is trained by Dana Getto for the Nova Scotia-based ownership group of Randy Getto, Wayne Hardy and Susan MacSween. The win was the pacer's eighth of the year and 14th lifetime, lifting earnings to $88,193.
