Armycaptin Hanover, Redstone Arsenal Fly Over Fraser
The six-year-old Captaintreacherous gelding Armycaptin Hanover had another successful night at the office to again take the $10,000 Open Pace at Fraser Downs, scoring his third win in a row on Wednesday night (Oct. 12).
Armycaptin Hanover settled into third early while Tiempo Hanover cut fractions of :27, :56.4 and 1:24.2 under no pressure. Trainer-driver Kelly Hoerdt soon added pressure to the pacesetter when launching Armycaptin Hanover forward heading to the final turn, and Armycaptin Hanover remained a poking presence to Tiempo Hanover all through the turn. The pair battled through the stretch until Tiempo Hanover gave way and Armycaptin Hanover slid home a three-quarter length winner in 1:52.3. Mach Steady, off a pocket ride, gave chase another three lengths behind in third and Vertical Squirt finished fourth.
Hoerdt co-owns Armycaptin Hanover with Blair Corbeil. He won his 29th race from 98 starts, has now earned $197,301 and paid $2.70 to win.
Opening the evening was decimation of the Fraser Downs track record for three-year-old pacing colts. Chris Lancaster trainee Redstone Arsenal raced parked by odds-on favourite Juliogetthestretch through splits of :27, :55 and 1:22.1 but kept plugging into the final turn. As Juliogetthestretch folded, Redstone Arsenal bounded clear to win by 11-1/2 lengths in 1:50.3. The Huntsville colt toppled the previous record of 1:52.1 set in March 2019 by Outlawgrabbingears.
