Spun From Magic Stars In Lakeshore Invite; Rooney Wins Six
Spun From Magic led all the way to win the featured $6,500 Lakeshore Invitational Trot on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 9) at Leamington Raceway.
Driven by Natasha Day, Spun From Magic spun the field through fractions of :28.3, :58.3 and 1:29.1 en route to the 2-1/4-length victory.
Spun From Magic bested his own track mark for aged trotting horses with the 1:59.3 victory for trainer Cassidy Schneider and owner Colonel Schneider Jr. of Arthur, Ont.
The five-year-old son of Kadabra has won three of his last four starts at Leamington Raceway and notched his eighth career victory while lifting his bankroll to $83,185.
He paid $4.20 to win, defeating co-favourite Magics Lucky Charm (Scott Wray) and Field Gunner (Don Rankin).
The weekly $5,500 Preferred 4 Pace was won by Bolt Power, who rallied wide off cover from the backfield to down the front-striding Life Is Better (Scott Wray) by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:56.2 for trainer/driver Braiden Reilbeling. The four-year-old Bolt The Duer gelding is owned by Brenda Derible and William Brown of Elmwood, Ont. Phone In (Garrett Rooney) completed the top three finish order.
Garrett Rooney took the lead in the local driver standings on Sunday with a six-win performance during the 10-race card. He now has 24 victories on the season with a five-win lead over Scott Wray (19). Spun From Magic's Lakeshore Trot victory was part of a driving double for Natasha Day, who now has 17 wins through the Leamington season to rank third.
Rooney's super Sunday included wins with Kevndan Fraudsters ($3.40), Hidden Article ($4.20), The Loan Ranger ($6.20), Mister Rebbily A ($2.60), Dali Cat ($3.90) and Go Mud ($9.90).
