Dunmore Chip Stars In Globetrotter
Dunmore Chip notched his third consecutive wire-to-wire win in the $9,700 Globetrotter Atlantic Classic for two-year-olds after circling the half-mile oval at Charlottetown Driving Park with ease on Saturday afternoon.
The fan favourite was sent to the lead from Post 2 by Edward Smallwood as Dusty Lane Ashlyn (Marc Campbell) made an early miscue from the inside post. Dunmore Chip laid down fractions of :32.2, 1:06.1 and 1:38.3 en route to a one-length victory in 2:09.
Dunmore Laird (Paul MacDonald) came on for second and Grayland Bling (Kenneth Arsenault) finished third.
Smallwood, a resident of Stratford, P.E.I, owns and trains the $5,500 purchase from the Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale. Dunmore Chip has earned $27,783 with six wins in 12 starts this season. On September 18, the Black River gelding dominated his division of the PEI Colt Stakes with an 18 length victory and on September 25, he took home top honours in a division of the Lady Slipper Stake.
