Big Cash With St Lads Cash At Rideau
Second-longest shot on the board St Lads Cash defied his 12-1 odds to take a narrow victory in the $10,500 Preferred Handicap Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday night (Oct. 2).
Driver Stephane Pouliot pushed St Lads Cash to sit in the pocket behind pacesetter Lovemyrockinbird to a :27.1 first quarter. He faced little challenge on the lead through a :56 half and 1:24.2 three-quarters yet turned for home one paced. With fresh legs, St Lads Cash darted from the pocket to the lead in the final strides to win by a neck in 1:53, with Major Hill finishing third and Jet Rock closing from last for fourth.
A six-year-old gelding by Sunfire Blue Chip, St Lads Cash won his 18th race from 131 starts and has now earned $158,948. Michelle LeBlanc owns and trains the gelding, who paid $26 to win.
