Surgery For Beach Glass
Trot Insider has learned that sophomore pacer Beach Glass was sent for surgery after his fourth-place finish on Saturday (Oct. 1) in stakes action at The Red Mile.
Trainer and co-owner Brent MacGrath told Trot Insider that Beach Glass was transported to Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky. after Saturday's race with surgery required to correct a trapped epiglottis.
In cases like this, there is typically airway obstruction with loose tissue located beneath the epiglottis — a movable fold of cartilage at the base of a horse's tongue — positioned over the cartilage, thus interfering with normal equine airflow and function.
MacGrath told Trot Insider that the surgery will be performed at Rood & Riddle on Monday (Oct. 3) and there's a "99% success rate. They say he should be fine for the Breeders Crown."
Beach Glass (Somebeachsomewhere - Im With Her) is the richest sophomore in harness racing this year, with $1,002,086 bankrolled this season while posting a 7-3-0 summary from 11 starts for Schooner II Stable of Truro, N.S.
Eliminations for the 2022 Breeders Crown will take place on the weekend of October 21-22 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
