Enberg Dominates Women's Driving Event At Leamington
The fourth leg of the the OLG Ontario Women’s Driving Championship was held on Sunday (Sept. 25) at Leamington Raceway, and Marielle Enberg stole the show.
Enberg made her way to the winner's circle in three of the four driving championship races.
She finished third in another race, and the strong performance moved her into second place in the overall standings entering the fifth and final leg of the competition next month.
Enberg started the day in third place in the overall standings through the first three legs, 19 points behind leader and defending 2021 OWDC winner Natasha Day.
Enberg racked up 18 points on Sunday, thanks to her three victories and one third-place finish. She now has 50 points in the series and is eight back of Day, who tallied seven points on Sunday and remains atop the leaderboard with 58.
Julie Walker is third with 48 points.
The fifth and final leg of the OWDC is slated Oct. 14 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Enberg got off to a great start to the fourth leg by taking the first two races on Sunday. She won with Siboney in 1:59.1 and Alyssa Marie 2:02.2.
Samara Johnson guided Podium Seelster to victory in the third women's race, before Enberg won again with Mach Shark in 2:02.
Johnson also had a pair of second-place finishes to accumulate 13 points on the day.
The OWDC expanded to five tracks with three extra legs this year, including at Leamington, Grand River Raceway and The Raceway at Western Fair District. Each racetrack hosts a race card as part of the series.
The OWDC also added two additional drivers this season, providing additional driving opportunities for even more female drivers.
The driving championship is sponsored by OLG and Ontario Racing.
