Plainridge Feature Goes To Powered By Mach
Matching a career best seventh win of the year, Powered By Mach made short work of her peers while winning the $17,500 Fillies and Mares Open II at Plainridge Park on a Thursday afternoon (Sept. 22) that saw races contested over a sloppy track in a relentless day-long rain.
Jay Randall fired Powered By Mach off the gate and took a two length lead to the quarter in :27 flat, while Adashious Hanover (Bruce Ranger) sat the pocket and the rest of the field stayed single file behind. There was no movement from there until the half when Probert (Brett Beckwith) made a move from last and advanced to fourth, but then hung there to the three-quarters. Powered By Mach was not affected by the challenge and maintained a controlled two length lead heading into the last turn. When the race reached the top of the stretch, Ranger tipped Adashious Hanover and started to urge the mare towards the front, but Powered By Mach responded and kept her at bay, while pacing home comfortably to win in 1:53.
The Jimmy Nickerson trained Powered By Mach ($4.60) now has $86,274 made this year for owner Fox Racing.
Randall ended the day with a total of three driving wins.
