Betcha Baby Upsets In Century Downs Feature
It was a last-to-first sweep for Betcha Baby in Friday’s feature race – the $13,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace – at Century Downs, and for those that backed her they were handsomely rewarded.
Sent off at odds of 9-1, Betcha Baby got away fifth for trainer/driver Brandon Campbell while Mrs Suhwiggins shot to the top and had the group chasing her past the quarter pole in :27. Stash The Cookies then shot to the top and took them to the mid-way point in :56.
If Only Id Known sat third in the early going before blasting her way to the top in the third quarter. She was the leader past the three-quarter pole in 1:24.3, but she couldn’t last on the lead. Instead, it was Betcha Baby who uncorked a :28.3 closing frame to win by three-quarters of a length over the race favourite, If Only Id Known, in 1:54. Past Affair rallied to grab the show dough in the five-mare affair.
It was the first win since early June for the six-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight-Me And My Baby who is owned by Timothy Kane, George Rogers, Raymond Henry and Jodi Loftus. It was the fourth win of the season for the 12-time winner who pushed her lifetime earnings to $246,250 in the process.
