Bugsy Maguire Favoured In Labour Day Feature
A special Labour Day Monday afternoon (Sept. 5) card has Bugsy Maguire pegged as the top dog in the featured pace at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Prince County Oval has 12-dashes on tap with a 1 p.m. (ADT) opening post time on the holiday program. The top dash of the day has Bugsy Maguire the morning-line favourite from post 5 for trainer Wade Sorrie and owner Walter Simmons of Summerside. The Bettors Delight eight-year-old has been exceptional lately with a 1:52.3 victory in the Premiers Pace on Gold Cup and Saucer night at Red Shores Charlottetown with Austin Sorrie in the bike. Bugsy Maguire followed that up with a fourth-place finish to Time To Dance, Bettim Again and Rose Run Quest the next week for driver Ken Murphy and now gets rookie pilot Damian MacLellan in the seat for Monday’s event.
His Boy Elroy was a convincing winner his last start in Summerside, winning in 1:55.4 for his 30th victory. Jason Hughes will drive the Phil Sizer trainee on Monday from post 2. Screen Test captured the top class last week and will leave from post 4 in this week’s renewal for regular driver Corey MacPherson. Also in the field are post 1 starter Dylan Sam and Hunger Pangs from post 3.
The Backstretch Beat likes Bugsy Maguire to deliver on his morning line promise.
“Bugsy Maguire has been going toe-to-toe with the finest pacers on the Eastern Seaboard every week and winning his share. Dodges the bearcats for this race so regardless of what MacLellan decides to do we think he belongs squarely in the win column.”
Boys Turn is the top choice in the Race 9 back-up class, carrying a $2,600 purse. David Dowling trains and drives the Shadow Play six-year-old for owner Clair Murphy of Millvale and Joel and Jeremy Watts of Springvale. His top rivals are slated to be My Land from post 1 and Coasttocoastshark from post 4.
