Cheeky Mare Dominating Dover Distaffers
Im Won Wine Wiser may be a tongue twister to say, but she is a good one for bettors to follow as she picked up her fourth consecutive win in the week’s top distaff event at Dover Downs
, the $16,000 Mares Winners Over Pace.
Driver George Dennis and his wife Tiny bred and own Im Won Wine Wiser, a five-year-old daughter of Modern Art-La Gloria Cubana, who is on a race-winning tear. She turned back a strong group of female challengers in the Tuesday 1:52.3 feature. The fast-finishing VC Atom N (Vince Copeland) closed along the passing lane for second and Tryst (Ron Pierce) came on the outside to show. The win was the fourth of the year in five outings for Im Won Wine Wiser, now a winner of $29,260 this year. Her career bankroll now totals $127,419.
Earlier, Jim Morand drove Jeff Clark’s Itz Cherry Ripe N to victory in 1:52.1 in the other $16,000 pace for females. The Courage Under Fire-Itzqueenofnewyork mare won for the second time in 2012 with two seconds in four starts. Freedom Crossing (Ross Wolfenden) was second best with Honey B Skipalong (Vince Copeland) third.
Both Tony Morgan and Matt Kakaley moved one win closer to career milestones. Morgan now has 13,991 wins, Kakaley 1,991.
