Hamlin Notches First Training Win At Hiawatha

Racing action at Hiawatha Horse Park

Michael Hamlin has had three starts so far as a trainer. All three have been in August 2022, at Hiawatha Horse Park, and with Anthony Hamlin driving Duke Deo. In this third start, Saturday night (Aug. 20), he achieved his first victory.

Duke Deo is a three-year-old gelding by Trixton, out of the Andover Hall mare Doris Deo. Duke Deo and Anthony Hamlin went to the gate as second choice in a field scratched down to four. The pair surged to the front and maintained position through fractions of :29.2, 1:01.2, 1:31, to a final time of 2:02 across the wire.

Duke Deo returned $4.50 to win. The Man From Uncle ($2.10) and Andy Moore finished second and Hally Road ($2.30) rounded out the triactor with Scott Wray in tow.
