Jessies Girl Sets Track On 2 Record
Derek Stout's homebred pacing mare Jessies Girl went from last to first in record time at The Track On 2 on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 14).
Trained by Doug Stout and driven by Mike Hennessy, Jessies Girl shaved one-fifth of a second off the track record for older pacing mares that was set by Oriental Express last year on July 31.
Trailing a field of five through the first half-mile in the $5,700 fourth race conditioned pace, Jessies Girl blew by her rivals in the stretch to win by four lengths in 1:53.3, closing out the track record mile with a :26.3 final quarter. Outlaw Spiced Rum (J.F. Gagne) settled for second after setting fractions of :29, :57.4 and 1:26.3 with Mr Dillion (Tyson Jacoby) following.
Jessies Girl paid $2.80 to win as the bettors' choice.
Nosed out last week by the former record holder, Jessies Girl was a 1:54.3 winner at the Lacombe, Alta. oval two starts back and today knocked a full second off that mark in her 19th start of the year. The five-year-old Badlands Hanover mare out of Stout's Alberta champion Blue Star Beauty now has a dozen wins and $117,554 in lifetime earnings.
The same connections also watched their homebred three-year-old colt Bearcat Sue score an 18-length blowout victory in 1:57.2 one race prior. Hennessy capped off the five-race card and completed a sweep of the last three races winning with his own pacer Outlaw Blue Ice in 1:56.3 by four lengths.
