Hollys Treasure Takes Leamington Preferred
Hollys Treasure pounced on the pacesetter turning for home and held off the late charge from the favourite to win the featured $5,000 Preferred 4 Handicap Pace on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 14) at Leamington Raceway.
Driven by Natasha Day, the four-year-old State Treasurer gelding won his Leamington debut in 1:56.3 for trainer Cassidy Schneider and owner/breeder Colonel Schneider of Arthur, Ont.
Its Eds Idea (Scott Wray) got the first call leaving from post four and set the pace with fractions of :28.1, :57.4 and 1:27 before surrendering the lead as the pocket-popping Hollys Treasure and wide-rallying 2-5 bettors' choice Life Is Better (Garrett Rooney) took off down the stretch. Hollys Treasure got the jump on the favourite and held on by a neck at the end for the victory.
He paid $6.90 to win as the 2-1 second choice.
Hollys Treasure has won a quarter of his 24 starts this year and now has 11 wins lifetime and nearly $80,000 banked in purses.
