Stockade Seelster Swift In Dream Maker Final
Off as the 1-5 favourite, Stockade Seelster swept for the lead past the half and held firm to the finish to win the $94,500 Dream Maker Final, co-featured with the $88,500 Whenuwishuponastar Final, at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday night (Aug. 13).
Hungry Man motored to the top to a :26.3 first quarter and soon yielded control to Hungry Angel Boy before a :56 half. Driver Jody Jamieson made his move with Stockade Seelster heading to the half, and the colt by State Treasurer hurried to the lead and opened nearly three lengths on his competition to three-quarters in 1:23.3. The Doc Moore pupil turned for home with a wide lead which he maintained to the finish of a 1:51.4 mile to win by two lengths over Redwood Hanover rallying for second. Stormalong took third and Hungry Man faded to fourth.
Sally MacDonald and Paul MacDonald own Stockade Seelster, who remained unbeaten from four starts while padding his bankroll to $158,550. He paid $2.30 to win.
The co-featured $88,500 Whenuwishuponastar Final went to the speed tactics of Sylvia Hanover, who paced a front-stepping mile to win in 1:52.
Driver Bob McClure landed the daughter of Always B Miki on the point to a :27.2 first quarter with Always B A Star sitting second and Bankers Luck third. With no challenge to a :57.1 half, Sylvia Hanover readied for a first-over push from Bankers Luck to three-quarters in 1:25.2 but easily brushed the challenge off into the stretch. The Shawn Steacy trainee sprinted home to win by 4-1/2 lengths over Bankers Luck with Always B A Star third and Duchenne closing for fourth.
Sylvia Hanover won her second race from three starts and has now earned $59,250 for owner Hudson Standardbred Stable Inc. She paid $2.60 to win.
