Coach Stefanos Schools His Competition In Fox Stakes

Trace Tetrick was the big winner at the Indiana State Fair on Wednesday (Aug. 10), capturing six of the 11 Grand Circuit stakes on the card, including the co-features with Coach Stefanos in the $55,670 Fox Stakes for two-year-old male pacers and with Just Show Up in the $45,797 Ralph Wilfong Memorial for two-year-old male trotters.

Two of Tetrick’s remaining four victories came in Horseman Stakes, with Ponda Adventure in the $35,388 event for three-year-old male trotters and JKs Rollin Baby in the $27,832 race for three-year-old female pacers. Tetrick also scored two in the Hoosier Stakes with Jesmach On Target in the $23,564 event for two-year-old male trotters and Ts Pride in the $14,270 first division for two-year-old female trotters.

Coach Stefanos (pictured above winning on July 28), Ponda Adventure, JKs Rollin Baby and Ts Pride are trained by Erv Miller, while Just Show Up is conditioned by Ron Burke and Jesmach On Target by Dave White.

Miller finished with five triumphs. His remaining winner was Beauty N Grace, driven by Atlee Bender, in the $26,726 Hoosier Stakes for two-year-old female pacers.

In the Fox Stakes, Coach Stefanos went to the front and never looked back, winning by three lengths over stablemate Frankie Frankie in a career-best 1:52. Strengthfromabove finished third.

Coach Stefanos has won four of five races and earned $77,085 for owners Ken Duffy, D & M Trading II and John Stefanos. The son of Tellitlikeitis-Watch N Be Watched was bred by Victory Hill Farm.

Just Show Up rallied from mid-pack to win the Wilfong Memorial by 1-1/2 lengths over Texsong Soprano and Dash Of Luck, who finished in a dead heat for second.

The victory was the first in four starts for Just Show Up, who is trained by Ron Burke for owners Burke Racing Stable, Knox Services, Frank Baldachino and Weaver Bruscemi. The son of Swan For All-Kalibrated was bred by Concord Stud Farm. He has earned $42,383.

Rounding out Wednesday’s winners were Walter Haynes Jr.-trained Rip Wheeler in the $32,088 Horseman Stakes for three-year-old male pacers, Melanie Wrenn’s Bluebird Dove in the $27,832 Horseman for three-year-old female trotters, Lavern Hostetler’s Adam Twelve in the $26,314 Hoosier for two-year-old male pacers, and Bob Stewart’s Fruit Cake in the $14,270 second division of the Hoosier for two-year-old female trotters.
