MacMillan Scores Sunday Grand Slam

The tone of the evening was set right out of the gate for trainer John MacMillan's stable starters as three-year-old gelding Talk Back won the first race in Ottawa on Sunday to kick start a four-win night for the regular Rideau Carleton Raceway conditioner

Talk Back ($3.30) worked his way to the front in the opener and cruised home to a two and a quarter length victory in 1:58.2. The lightly raced son of Tell All, recently acquired by MacMillan, is now two-for-two in 2012.

MacMillan trainee Sydney Seelster ($5.90) was a gate-to-wire winner in the third race. The four-year-old Camluck mare picked up her first win in three starts this year as she romped to a five and a half length score in 1:59.2.

New Jersey ship-in Wicked Intentions ($17.80) advanced to the lead after the opening panel in the sixth race fillies and mares winners over event and held on to win in 1:58.1. The victory was the five-year-old daughter of No Pan Intended's first in four outings this year, though she has picked up cheques in all six of her recent Canadian starts at Rideau.

Finally, three-year-old gelding Riding With P ($5.40) scored his second straight win for MacMillan with a 1:58 effort in the following seventh race. The son of Lis Mara converted from the pocket for his fourth win in five 2012 starts.

Driver Ted McDonald drove all four winners for MacMillan, who now has 14 victories to his credit so far this year. Lifetime, the Spencerville, Ont. resident has won 1,174 races and has earned over $7.1 million in purses.

MacMillan, who sent out nine starters during the 15-race card, nearly scored another win in the 12th race, but his streaking trainee, Arch Villain with Gord Brown in the bike, was nosed out for the victory by Art Hustler.
