Ohio State Fair To Kick Off At Scioto
The first leg of the Ohio Triple Crown is set to begin this weekend with the Ohio State Fair Stakes at Eldorado Scioto Downs. With divisions for both two- and three-year-olds, Ohio breds will compete for more than $1.06 million in three days of racing.
A total of four divisions for freshman fillies will kick-off the Ohio State Fair action on Thursday (Aug 4). Two trot divisions will go for $67,000 each while two pace division will compete for $72,500.
Swinging Senorita opens the first division for two-year-old trotting fillies as the 3-2 morning line favourite. Anthony MacDonald will remain in the bike for trainer Jason McGinnis. In just five starts, Swinging Senorita has won three times and placed second an additional two. With a mark in 1:56.1, the What The Hill filly has bankrolled over $110,000. Swinging Senorita is owned by Thestable Senorita Group and Hutchison Harness.
Second choice (9-5) Rose Run Yolanda is conditioned by Todd Luther for Black Magic Racing. Trevor Smith will drive the Triumphant Caviar filly. Rose Run Yolanda won her last Ohio Sires Stake start at Eldorado Scioto Downs on July 28.
Truly Relentless will try to make it three in a row as the 7-5 favourite in the final division for filly trotters. In four starts, the filly has bankrolled upwards of $80,000. Chris Lems drives for trainer Steve Cross. The daughter of Long Tom is owned by Richard Gutnick, Thomas Pontone, and Joseph Lozito Jr.
Garry Martin trains the 5-2 second choice Global Girl. The daughter of Global Republic has been second and third in her two Ohio Sires Stakes starts. Don Irvine Jr. will be in the sulky. Global Girl is owned by Sue Stockwell.
In the first division for filly pacers, Tyler Smith will sit behind the 9-5 favourite Fear Of Sports. The daughter of Fear The Dragon has two wins and two seconds in four lifetime starts. Kelly O’Donnell trains for Emerald Highlands Farm.
My Red Sea is the second choice at 7-2. The Downbytheseaide filly boasts two wins and $98,000 in lifetime earnings. Kayne Kauffman trains and drives for Redline Racing Stables, Redracer LLC, and David Van Dusen.
Elvette Hanover will round out the final division as the 5-2 favourite. Dan Noble will get the call for the first time. The Downbytheseaside filly has hit the board in all three of her lifetime starts for trainer Ron Burke. Elvette Hanover is owned in partnership by Burke Racing Stable, RAS Racing, Jason Melilo, and Kitefield Stable.
At 4-1, both Calgary and Lofty Treasure will come in for second choice. Calgary has earned over $67,000 with two lifetime wins. Ronnie Wrenn Jr. will drive for Ryan Miller. Diamond Creek Farm owns the daughter of Downbytheseaside. Tony Hall will guide Lofty Treasure for Cory Mumford. The Beachtrea filly won her last Ohio Sires Stake start at Northfield Park in 1:54.2. Frank Chick owns the freshman.
