Prospect Series Invades Sarnia

Racing action at Hiawatha Horse Park

A quartet of Prospect Series splits went to gate on the 11-race card at Hiawatha Horse Park on Saturday (July 23) with two divisions for three-year-old trotting fillies and two for sophomore pacing fillies.

Lune Duharas opened the card with a victory in a field scratched to a race-off with Magics Angel Eyes. Driver Loic Gueriel took the lead with the Muscle Mass filly and gradually separated from Magics Angel Eyes through fractions of :30.1, 1:02 and 1:30.4 in progress to an 18-length win in 2:00.4. Denis Gueriel trains the winner of three races from 11 starts and $28,061 for owner-breeder Haras De L'Estrie Inc. She paid $2.10 to win.

Say Something slid out of the pocket to win the other Prospect split for three-year-old trotting fillies going away. The Muscle Mass filly stalked tempo-setter Archsrainbow through fractions of :28, :58.2 and 1:28.1 before pouncing and kicking clear to a three-length victory. Desiree Jones trains the winner of four races from 24 starts and $65,306 for owner Gino Toscani. Garrett Rooney piloted the $2.80 winner.

The first Prospect division for pacing fillies went to Sauble Amber, who held to score a front-stepping win in 1:55.2. Driver Anthony Haughan sped to a :26.4 first quarter to lead with the daughter of Betterthancheddar and cruised through middle fractions of :55.2 and 1:24.2 before facing a challenge from and ultimately rebuffing Lolas Sunshine by a neck. Otis Hall conditions the five-time winner from 17 tries and earner of $36,148 for owners and breeders Sauble Hill Farms and Nasussito Racing Inc.

Driver Don Rankin Jr. ground first over with Gregg McNair pupil Arkell to deliver as the 6-5 favourite in the other pacing filly Prospect division. Rankin sat third with the Sunshine Beach filly while Better Sing It set a clip of :28.3, :59.2 and 1:27.3. Getting underway moving to three-quarters, Arkell crept to within a length of Better Sing It rounding for home and downed that rival in the lane by a half length in 1:56.2 to collect her fourth win from 13 starts and add to her bankroll of now $34,650. She races for owners Shady Hill Racing Stable, Brenda Lothmann and Laura McKinney and paid $4.20 to win.
