Arc Light Favoured In Red Shores Thursday Finale
On the heels of an historic mile by her uncle in New Jersey, Arc Light will look to have her own time in the spotlight Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 12-dash Thursday card has a 6:30 p.m. opening post time as racing returns to the Capital oval.
Arc Light has post two in the $2,000 final dash of the Thursday card and the six-year-old daughter of Camystic can now post one of the most regal bloodlines in harness racing as her mother Red Star Ashlee is a three-quarter sister to freshly minted 1:45.4 Meadowlands winner and world champion Bulldog Hanover. Although the title world champion may be out of reach for Arc Light, she still has a prominent Atlantic Canadian record to her name after winning nine races in 2021 including a quick 1:53.3 score over Red Shores Charlottetown for owner Crossroads Racing Stable of Stratford, P.E.I., and trainer/driver Marc Campbell.
Gritty campaigner Traces Of Purple leaves from post six for the tandem of owner/trainer Robert Phillips and driver Ken Murphy. The Brandons Cowboy mare looks for her 32nd lifetime win. Post seven belongs to Miss Kabana with Jason Hughes in the seat at 7-2 morning line odds for trainer Gary Poulton.
The "Post Time Picks" Thursday have Peter MacPhee placing his faith in post four starter Black Elektra from the Jeff Holmes stable: “Black Elektra fired to the front two down and was a gate-to-wire winner in 1:56.1. This is a good group but if Dowling can control it from the hop, they could close the card with a win.”
Also in the finale field are Thats Mia Bad (to be driven by Myles Heffernan Sr.), Outrageous Spirit (Adam Merner), You Aint Dolly (Mark Bradley) and Miss Sangria (Brodie MacPhee).
The $2,800 Open Trot lines up in Race 8 with Sailor Blue looking to replicate her romp in last week’s Andrew Perry Invitational Trot during Governor’s Plate Week at Red Shores Summerside. Murphy drives the Jeff Holmes trainee from post four for owners Cindy and Ambyr MacDonald and Yossi Martonovich. Her main rivals are Mile Hill Willie (Gilles Barrieau) and Freddie (Marc Campbell).
