The homebred daughter of Wheeling N Dealin-Ballykeel Majestic, who was sent off as the 9-5 favourite, got away seventh and held that position while Kenogami Courage led the field through first-half fractions of :29.4 and 1:00.2. Kenogami Courage was still in charge of supplying the speed at the three-quarter pole in 1:31, but the backfield started to come to life.
The Ballykeel Deal made a three-wide move going to the three-quarter pole and then fired home in :29 to win by a length over Angelic KT in 2:00.3. Sister Twister, who also made a wide move in the late stages of the mile, was third.
Ballykeel Racing Inc of Tillsonburg, Ont. bred and owns the trotting lass who now has a win and a second-place finish on her resume from her first two assignments. She’s banked $17,250 in the process.
Lucy Who pulled off a 13-1 upset in the second division for the team of driver Bert Renaud and trainer Julie Walker.
The daughter of Wheeling N Dealin-Jayport Destiny got was third and held her position while race favourite Cunning Connie sped through early fractions of :28.3 and :59.3. Lucy Who made a bold move from first over around the final turn, and she brushed to the top and hustled the field past the three-quarter pole in 1:29.3. She used a :30.3 closing quarter to win by 12-1/4 lengths over Match Meif You Can. Cunning Connie weakened late and wound up rounding out the Trifecta ticket.
