Warrawee Vital Victorious In Mohawk Open
Warrawee Vital circled to the lead and maintained control to the finish of a 1:48.1 mile to win the $33,000 Open Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (July 9).
East End sprinted to lead the field to the quarter in :26.2 before yielding command to Wheel On Fire, who then forfeited the lead to Warrawee Vital as driver Trevor Henry sent the 2-5 favourite for the lead up the backside. Once on top, Warrawee Vital cruised to the half in :54 and continued to roll to three-quarters in 1:21.3. He spun for home but had a swift challenge coming from Cold Creek Cabo late as he sprung from last, though Warrawee Vital held firm to win by three-quarter lengths by the line. East End gave pursuit to take third and Wheels On Fire faded to fourth.
A five-year-old stallion by Captaintreacherous, Warrawee Vital has won his second race from five starts this season and his 17th from 40 overall. He has now earned $493,206 for owners Blair Corbeil, Yolanda Fellows and M&S Racing Stable Inc. Rob Fellows trains the $2.80 winner.
