Soccer Hanover Takes On Charlottetown

Atlantic Canada harness racing

The last time Soccer Hanover was in Queen’s County he was smiling for his picture and will look to replicate that victory as he returns Saturday (July 9) to Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The city track will field 11 dashes on Saturday evening with Soccer Hanover headlining the $3,300 Preferred 2 pace in Race 10. Ken Murphy retains the drive on the eight-year-old son of Dragon Again for trainer Leith Waite, who co-owns the 27-time winner with Les and Spencer Waite of Charlottetown. Soccer Hanover has been a six-time winner so far in 2022 including his latest start at Red Shores Summerside where he got up for a head decision in 1:55.3.

Stash It Away faces the toughest test of his career as he moves out of Stakes company for this week and draws the rail against his aged foes. Corey MacPherson drives the three-year-old son of Pang Shui from the Kevin MacLean stable. Blue Monk moves back into the Preferred 2 ranks after a start against top level preferred pacers and gets saddled with Post 8 on Saturday for driver Marc Campbell and trainer Jay Noye.

Peter MacPhee with the Post Time Picks has Burn Out Hanover in the top spot as he drops from the Preferred class and adds Gilles Barrieau to the race bike for trainer Jeff Holmes.

“Burn Out Hanover has faced the big dogs all season long and raced very well for the most part,” MacPhee said. “He also gets a great spot to work from and if Barrieau can control it from the hop that could seal the deal.”

Rounding out the field are Nogreatmischief (Walter Cheverie), Cowboy Logic (Steven Shepherd), Moonwriter (David Dowling) and Mantario (Damian MacLellan).

Mc Pat has rail control in the Race 11 finale for trainer-driver Barrieau and owner Donald Stevenson of Fredericton, N.B. The Delmarvalous six-year-old was second in his latest start. Legendary Ron (Dale Spence) will leave from Post 7 after visiting the winner’s circle in four out of eight starts in 2022 and finished third against the preferred pacers his last start. Mister Rebbily A makes his East Coast debut from Post 3 for driver Dowling and trainer Mike Dowling. The six-year-old had been racing the claiming ranks at Yonkers Raceway in New York.
